a name given to the west shore of Hudson's Bay.
- 1835  The ice prevented Monk from running along the western coast of Greenland, he consequently steered for Hudson's Strait, and finding the coast of America in lat. 63 deg. 20 min., he took shelter in a harbour, which he called Monks' Winter Harbour (probably the Chesterfield inlet of our maps.) The surrounding country they named New-Denmark.
- 1932  "Munck named the surrounding country 'New Denmark,' and Churchill harbour 'Jens Munck's Winter-haven,' or, adopting an English word, 'Jens Munck's Bay.'"
